A quick reference guide on TestDrive sandboxes

In the VMware TestDrive portal, in Sandbox Experiences, a permitted TestDrive user can enable a personal sandbox tenant in the VMware Cloud. The tenants are provided for basic, short-term exploration of a fully-configurable service. However, they are not intended to support elaborate, long-term trials or POCs.

All sandbox tenants are brokered by TestDrive on behalf of the TestDrive user. TestDrive does not manage tenants in the VMware Cloud. Teams within VMware Cloud Operations manage and support all Workspace ONE UEM, Workspace ONE Access, and Workspace ONE Express environments in the VMware Cloud.

For technical support within any sandbox tenant, reach out to your VMware pre-sales support representative.

This guide provides answers to common sandbox questions.

Workspace ONE UEM Sandbox

  • Login trouble - TestDrive sets up a basic administrator account intended to get you started in a UEM sandbox tenant. In SaaS-hosted UEM, a basic admin account is (1) managed by the UEM environment itself not TestDrive, and (2), per VMware Cloud Operations' security policy, must have its password reset every 30 days.
Best practice: Integrate Workspace ONE Access or your test AD/LDAP (via Cloud Connector) for user account management.

  • Workspace ONE Assist is not supported in a TestDrive-brokered UEM sandbox tenant. For Assist support, use the TestDrive RTU environment.

  • Workspace ONE Freestyle Orchestrator is not supported in a TestDrive-brokered UEM sandbox tenant.

  • Workspace ONE Intelligence is available after opt-in from your UEM sandbox. However, Intelligence is a time-restricted trial per Intelligence Operations' policy. If more time is needed, the Intelligence trial can be extended by your inviter through a defined internal process.

  • Reset tenant - Tenant resets are not supported in the TestDrive portal.

  • UEM upgrades - UEM upgrades are performed by VMware SaaS Operations, following their deployment schedule. Contact your VMware pre-sales support representative for more information.

  • Production conversion - A sandbox tenant can not be converted to production.

  • Account Deletion - After a TestDrive user account expires, the associated sandbox tenant is deleted during periodic cleanup.

Workspace ONE Access Sandbox

  • Login trouble - TestDrive created an administrator account to get you started. However—unlike a UEM sandbox—a Workspace ONE Access sandbox tenant's local administrator account is synced with the TestDrive portal. Therefore, resetting your TestDrive password (here) will also reset the Workspace ONE Access sandbox tenants local administrator password.
Best practice: Since Workspace ONE Access is an identity provider, integrate your own user directory.

    • If you have trouble logging in to your Workspace ONE Access sandbox, perhaps due to an authentication policy change, use the below URL format to log in to your tenant's local system:
      https://<yourtenant>.vidmpreview.com/SAAS/auth/0

  • Reset tenant - Tenant resets are not supported in the TestDrive portal.

  • Production conversion - A sandbox tenant can not be converted to production.

  • Account Deletion - After a TestDrive user account expires, its associated sandbox tenant is deleted during periodic cleanup.
